Lake to Okehampton
This is quite a short walk at 4.2 miles but does rise 225 m. However when you get to the top of Sourton Tors the views are tremendous. You will pass the Highwayman Inn said to be Britain’s most unusual pub and also the Bearslake Inn so spoilt for choice. The next walk is a 5 mile walk around Meldon reservoir which if added to this walk would make a lovely day out on the moors.
Prewley Moor to Meldon Reservoir
This walk is primarily a visit to Meldon reservoir but does take you across a weir spanning the West Okement river. Except for just one quite steep hill it’s generally an easy walk. You could make an excursion to Black-a-Tor Copse a National Nature Reserve very similar to Wistmans wood but far less visited.
This walk will take you to the Museum of Dartmoor Life the northern end of the West Devon way. Its a 7.5 mile walk if you go the moorland way but if there is live firing or you decide on the shorter route then its only 6 miles. On this walk you get to go over the Meldon viaduct railway bridge now part of the Granite Way.
