Walk 13 Lake to Prewley Moor. This is quite a short walk at 4.2 miles but does rise 225 m. However when you get to the top of Sourton Tors the views are tremendous. You will pass the Highwayman Inn said to be Britain’s most unusual pub and also the Bearslake Inn so spoilt for choice. The next walk is a 5 mile walk around Meldon reservoir which if added to this walk would make a lovely day out on the moors.
Walk 14 is primarily a visit to Meldon reservoir but does take you across a weir spanning the West Okement river. Except for just one quite steep hill it’s generally an easy walk. You could make an excursion to Black-a-Tor Copse a National Nature Reserve very similar to Wistmans wood but far less visited.
This 7.5 mile walk is the final walk in the series and will take you all the way into Okehampton to the Museum of Dartmoor Life.
On the way back you get to walk over Meldon Viaduct now part of the Granite Way. If you are unlucky enough to chose a day when there is live firing on the moor then there is an alternative shorter walk back of 5.8 miles.
